Today, April 1st, marks 10 years since ShadowKingdom first opened its doors. A whole decade of creativity, adventure, and an incredible community that has made this server so much more than just a place to play Minecraft. From the early days to now, SK has been shaped by thousands of players who have built, explored, and made lasting memories together.
This milestone is a testament to the dedication of this community. Every town, every build, every event, and every friendship formed here has been part of an unforgettable journey.
My Journey with ShadowKingdom
For me, ShadowKingdom has been life-changing. I joined in January 2017 as a total newbie, just another player eager to learn and have fun. Over time, I grew alongside the server and its people, finding a sense of belonging that inspired me to give back. In September 2019, I joined the staff team, became an Admin by summer 2020, and took over ownership in late 2023. It’s been a wild ride—full of challenges, triumphs, and lessons—and I owe so much to every person I’ve worked with. SK has given me experiences and friendships I’ll carry forever, and for that, I’m endlessly grateful.
A Difficult Announcement
As much as I wish this post could just be a celebration, it also comes with difficult news. Over the past year, it has become increasingly difficult to keep ShadowKingdom running at the level it deserves. While we’ve accomplished a lot, there is still so much more that would be needed to bring the server to its full potential. Unfortunately, I’ve reached a point where I can no longer dedicate the time, effort, and financial resources necessary to keep SK going.
It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that ShadowKingdom will be closing its doors on Wednesday, 30 April 2025 10pm GMT.
I know the timing of this announcement may raise some eyebrows, but I want to be absolutely clear—this is not an April Fools joke. I wouldn’t joke about something this important to so many people.
What Happens Next?
- Creative: If you have builds on Creative that you’d like to save, I encourage you to log in and download backups of your builds using /plot download before the server shuts down. If you ecounter any issues, please ask staff to help out.
- Website & Domain: The ShadowKingdom domain will remain online, and Matt will be hosting a small website featuring some memorial photos of the server’s history.
- Towny World Downloads: The Towny5 and Towny6 world downloads will be available soon, alongside the existing ones, so you can revisit your towns and memories anytime. This site will also remain available in the future.
- Discord Server: Our public Discord server will remain open, so the community doesn’t have to disappear with the server. It won’t be moderated in the same way, but it will still be a space to keep in touch.
Memorial Photos & Final Gatherings
To celebrate ShadowKingdom's legacy, we’ll be gathering in the SK lobby for group photos to create lasting memories of our time together:
📸 Today, April 1st, at 8pm GMT, we will assemble for the first memorial photo. (in 5 hours)
📸 Every Saturday in April (5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th), I will be in the SK lobby at 8pm GMT for additional memorial photos. I’d love for as many of you as possible to join in!
A Final Thank You
ShadowKingdom has always been about the people who made it what it was. To every player, every town mayor, every builder, and every adventurer—thank you. To every staff member, past and present, who has volunteered their time to make this place better—thank you.
This isn’t just the end of a Minecraft server. It’s the closing of a chapter that has meant so much to so many. Let’s make these last moments on SK something to remember.
❤️ Thank you for an incredible 10 years.
